Un'attrice, cantante e ballerina meravigliosa... ci mancherai... With Love ♥ Eleo
The "Dancing in the Dark" park dance scene with Fred Astaire and Cyd in The Band Wagon is the most awesome piece of movie making ever. They never spoke a word and hardly touched yet it was charged with romance, grace and beauty like nothing before or since. It makes me catch my breath and brings a tear to my eyes everytime I watch it. Cyd, I wish I had known you!
One of my all time favorite movies Brigadoon starring Cyd and Gene Kelly. The dance numbers featuring those two stay in my dreams. She was so beautiful. She and Kelly were a match made in heaven in that picture. I wish someone could write music and love stories like Brigadoon today!
My memory is of Cyd Charisse in her lovely films. I used to train as a dancer when I was young but never continued with it after reaching teen years. One thing I am ure I heard was that Fred Astaire much preferred to dance with her than with Ginger. I loved Ginger but Cyd was so graceful. My she continue her dancing now she is in heaven. Veronica Crabtree Hill, Didim, Turkey
In 1989 I meet Ms. Charisse for the first time. I worked for Target Stores (Music, Movies, and Book Division) and her movies had done well in our stores. Target arranged for her to hand out the awards to our merchandisers that year. As I look back on the 18 years I worked for Target and the many movie, music and written word artists I had the pleasure of meeting, she was the absolute most gracious and kind person I have ever met. That award ceremony was pretty special to me personally, as it was Ms. Charisse who awarded me "Merchandiser of the Year", for our division. I will always charish the pictures that were taken of she and I together, and the kind conversations we shared.
I was born in the early 30's and my uncle was a movie projectionist, so I was able to see all of the movies, especially the musicals of the 40's. Cyd Charisse was one of my most favorite people and I particuarly remember her in "Silk Stockings." I also remember her husband Tony Martin well. She danced and he sang, what a beautiful couple! I felt absolutely sick when I heard of her death. She and her husband were also just very good people. What a loss!
What a sad day when I knew the news! I love musicals since I was a child and she was my favourite dancer and actress too. It could happen any day but I think I wouldn't be ever ready to accept it.Plenty of beauty and talent ,she was the icon of the golden movies and her humanity is also unforgettable. There are only tears in my heart and my condolences for her whole family. Golden Hollywood was turning off year by year. God bless you,Cyd from Madrid(Spain).
I raise horses. One of my mares just had the most beautiful filly with long correct legs. In trying to think of a great name for her I thought of Ms. Charisse with her very long beautiful legs and bingo...her registered name is Cyd Charisse...in honor of another long leged beauty. May she rest in peace.
Great Women passing.....I have to say how ironic it was to find out that someone my Mother admired so greatly (also from Texas, as she was) died the same day. God Bless them both, Cyd Charisse (the famous Dancer) and Eva Lee Hudson (mother of Five daughters), God keep you both close to the heart. I have to feel that thinking of the good things in life, past, present and future, is the only way to cope with this loss.
My memories of Ms. Charrise were at the age of 12/13 years old. This is when I first saw Ms. Charrise in the movie "Singing in the Rain". This is my all time favorite although I love all old black/white and old color movies I raised my four children on these movies and to this day they still love to see them. I just found out just this moment after watching "Singing in the Rain", that it was a tribute to the late "Cyd Charrise". I immediately got on the internet to see if it was true, to my dismay it was. I will always Cherish the memories of watching the old movies of the beautiful times back then. Just wish I could have been born sooner, to hav lived in the moment. I am one of the few that have named a daughter after Ms. Charrise, (Nikolette Cherise-Niko for short). I think this is the greatest tribute I could have given my favorite beautiful dancer. I will forever be grateful to Ms. Charrise and her family to have given us the opportunity to watch, admire, and forever love Ms. Cyd Charrise on the big screen. My Heart and Soul sympathy go out to Mr. Martin and there sons at this beautiful time that she is watching, waiting and Dancing for the Lord in Heaven with wings, when we will all be able to see her gracefully dance for all again. May the Lord Bless you at this time in sadness and need for the warmth of her laughter. Remember she will always be in your hearts and in our eyes to see. God Bless you and keep you in his hands of Mercy. Thank You Love always, Juanita in Coachella, CA
Who will ever forget the image of a lovely lass dancing in "the heather on the hill"? Brigadoon was always one of my favorite movies, with the beautiful dresses, moving songs (I always sang along!), and the message that love can conquer anything...even a curse upon an entire village! I grew up in the late 70's & early 80's, the only daughter of an older mom, who instilled in me a great love of musicals, as well as all the great studio movies of "old" Hollywood. When I heard the news last week, I waited and waited (and waited some more) for "Entertainment Tonight" to put on a tribute..."Cyd Charrise, Dancing Legend" or "the woman who inspired generations of little girls to dance"...but nothing, not a single mention. Instead we got 3-4days of Tim Russert (yes, it's a shame), Matthew McCaughney without his shirt (like thats news!), who's cheating, whos divorcing, Jamie Lynn giving birth, and 2days of speculation on the state of Madonna's marriage. But I guess the passing of a woman starred in so many excellent movie musicals, who kept her private life private, who was married to one man for 60years and who was the very definition of CLASS ACT wasn't interesting enough for an "entertainment" program to report on...and isn't that a sad commentary on what the industry was become?
THank God for movies - she will never be forgotten.
I grew up watching the golden oldies on reruns. How I wish I had been able to see these fabulous movies on the big screen.
What a dame! What a dame! She belongs in the hall of fame! Baby you knock me out! Thanks for the memories Cyd, you were one of a kind and I am so sad that you are no longer here. May God's blessing keep you always.
I always say, Thank You God for letting me live in the greatest years this country has ever had. The Fourties Fifty's and Sixty's. Cyd Charisse is one of the reasons I feel this way. Be happy Cyd, We will meet again. Joe DeMarco
I had the honor of meeting Cyd Charisse and giving her a reading at a party in Beverly Hills a couple of years back. She was gracious, a Pisces, and so interested not only in what I told her, but her family. She looked stunning, and I told her my father had been one of her greatest fans in Africa, and her beautiful dancing. I know Cyd is now dancing with all the angels in Heaven! Judy Hevenly, Los Angeles, Ca.
I shared a trip to the ladies room at Lake Tahoe with Miss Charisse where she was with her husband Tony Martin. She was friendly, full of grace and I will always remember that moment. She seemed quiet and shy and so very beautiful, impeccable and poised. I loved her in every movie she made. i hope her last years were happy.
BRAVA ! Well done. A Fan
Sincere condolences to Mr. Martin andhis family on the passing of his great love. I've seen every moveie Miss Charisse danced in and remember especially when she danced to the "Desert Song" in the moveie about Sigmund Romberg. Unforgettably sensuous yet elegant and breath taking. There'll never be another like her!
Since childhood I've noticed Cyd Charisse. I've admired her as a very talented dancer and actress She was unique in everything. Few months ago I've seen one of her movie, Party Girl, she was superbe there. That refreshed my memory. I'll always remember her with love for making me feel happy whenever she dansed. May G-D bless her soul there where she is now. Rest in peace my beautiful lady.
Cyd was the lady who made me want to dance as a little girl.Thank you for the magic you brought us all. Rest in peace. My sympathies to all of her nearest and dearest athis time. Your legend lives on Barbara Maclean
I loved her talent and acting and her dancing . Someone I will never forget and always remember. I feel like I have lost a friend. Thank you for all the many hours of you I have watched over the years. My condolences to your family. Heaven has you now . May you rest in peace- Fred
I started out to attend Cyd Charrise's Memorial today at Hillside Memorial Park. I got started late, it was very hot, the traffic was heavy, the cut-offs of Centinela Blvd are very confusing. I ended up coming back home instead, but I'm sorry I missed it. I'm sure it was a beautiful tribute to one of the great beauties not only of movie lore but also of the world. She remained beautiful until the end, the epitome of class and elegance. She signed 2 pictures for me in 1994. I will always treasure them - and her memory. Rest in Peace Cyd Charisse..
Cyd Charisse was an elegant lady to her fingertips. A great artiste and a wonderful lady. My thoughts and prayers with Mr. Martin and her entire family at this very sad time. Stephen Maitland-Lewis
And so another part of old Hollywood passes. My thoughts are with her family and friends in this hour of their nedd for comfort. I'm not a dance fan, but I have always enjoyed watching people like Cyd Charrise dance - it is on another level. The world is a little less bright with her passing.
Truly the greatest female dancer. You will be dearly missed. David Chamberlain & Family
I have a love for dance, and Cyd Charisse was truly an artist. Her love for dance truly spoke to me and she was an inspiration. I was brought to tears when I heard of her death. I am grateful though for her talent, her spirit, her charm. I remember watching her in the various movies she was in. She brought to me such comfort and joy. Thank you Cyd, Thank you. Cynthia J. Noble
Our deepest and sincerest condolences to her husband Tony Martin and her children. We will remember her dances, her great talent, and beauty. God bless.
I can not forget the way those two danced together., They flowed as if they were one. She was so inspiring.. It is such a sad loss .. But her memory lives on.
you were the epitomy of the classy, accomplished brunette and while blondes have always been abundant as sex symbols you smoldered with intelligence, grace, and talent...a show business marriage to tony martin for 60 years attests to love, grace, and common sense...a true woman to be admired and emulated. from the time i was a child your dancing took my breath away and thrilled me with what true beauty and art could offer an audience...you made me proud and happy to be a sexy, loyal, and intelligent brunette... an awesome role model... thank you for your grace and charm....sharon j.
I am shocked. I just found Cyd Charisse by accident while doing a search on "Vaudeville" . I have never been moved more by any dance number I've seen in my life than by what I just watched on You Tube of her! I can't believe I just found her and then to find out a half an hour later that she just passed away on Tuesday! I'm so saddend, but deeply inspired and grateful to have come across this wonderful lady. What an inspiration! May she be dancing on clouds in Heaven.
When I was 16 years old, I met Tony Martin on a cruise to the Bahamas. I was his son, Tony, jr.'s age and we talked for over 2 hours. All he could talk about was how much he loved his family and how lucky he was to have met Cyd. That was in the 1960's and I've never forgotten how devoted he was to her and his children. I still have the picture taken of us together on the deck. I've always been agreat fan of both of them. Cyd will be forever remembered for Dancing in the Dark and Silk Stockings. I even used her song All of You for our wedding song. Farewell to a great lady. Condolences to Tony Martin and the boys. The Smallbergs in Melville, NY
I loved to watch her in the movies...she had class and grace....she was one of a kind....God bless........................R.A.
Our daughter is named after her and loved all the musicals and dancing when she was a girl - and we have it spelled exactly ~~ Charisse ~~
I remember growing up with Cyd Charisse movies. I always admired her because she was tall and brunette like me, and I was only 13 years old. She gave a lot of people joy with her performances. I thank her for that. May she rest in peace. Merle
My name is Marta and I'm from Barcelona (Spain). The musical movies here does not have too much fans, but it's not my family case. Cyd has been my favourite actress since I was 5 years old. I will never forget the fist time I saw her dance... She was a dancing goddes. And with Gene... wow... it was magic! In those years I have copied her hair, her make up, her clothes a lot of times... she was my inspiration of a real, beautiful and ellegant woman is. She makes me love the dance, and now.. maybe sounds rare, but I'm a bellydancer (mystic bellydancer) and every time I dance, I think to my self "come on, just like Cyd". Of course I am not a special dancer... just amateur, but my artistic name is Satya Charisse in her honor. I've tried for 2 years to write her a letter to let her know it, but I'm learning english and it's dificcult for me... Now I'm writing this the best I can to let it know to her family. My husband wants to send you a condolence message too. All our love to you. God bless you. Marta Garcia Pons y Juan Delgado Pérez
The beauty she projected in spirit and physically in her appearances on Stage, Film, and any media she chose to appear in. She was beauty personified. I fell in love with her as a child and again, as a seventy year old. I regularly played the video of her and Fred dancing "Dancing in the Dark," the most elegant footage on screen. Thank you Cyd for all of the lovliness and beauty you shared with us. You'll always live in my memories.
As we worked together in "Ilya Darling", you always treated us with love and respect. You will find that same love and respect in heaven. My condolences to your family.
Thank you for your graceful movements. Thank you for your charm. Thank you for the entertainment. Thank you for the inspiration.
I've always loved her films, and whilst pregnant watched Singing in the rain many many times and in tribute to you, my daughter who was born march 8th 2005 was named Cyd. I hope she turns out to be such a warm, loving, talented lady just like her namesake. you'll be sadly missed by all those whose lonely lives you touched vickie, cyd and family xxx
While sitting in a cool movie theater during a hot Yuma, AZ summer, I became enthralled watching Cyd Charisse. I dreamed to be dancing the same way but alas, it never happened. I remember her and Ricardo Montalban as twins in the movie Fiesta (wish I could get a copy). I was just thinking of her and Tony Martin the other day and it's good to know they had a successful Hollywood marriage.
We are all aware that Cyd was a fabulous dancer, but I remember her as Rosa in East Side West Side. She had a secondary striaight-acting role, but as far as I was concerned she was the star, as she lit up the screen with her beautiful voice and sophisticated but youthful ehtusiastic persona. She lost Van Heflin to Barbara Stanwyck (huh?) but everyone in the audience knew that they would see her again and again, for she truly had a karma most movie stars would kill for.
My Family have watched every movie Cyd made. Even my granddaughter is in love with the Classics. I rate Cyd write up there with Fred anf Gene. You were there Female egual. you were a joy to behold and will be missed but not forgotton for movies live on. God bless. The McInnis Family
Since I was little I've always enjoyed watching Cyd and other greats like her on the screen. Her beauty and charm was heaven sent. My 2 girls aged 7 and 10 yrs also love watching Cyd on the screen on our family movie nights. We were all shocked and saddened to hear of her passing. Our sincere condolences go to Cyd's family. The Stephens Family
My Dad was such a huge fan of hers that he named me after her. Wish I'd gotten those legs, too! My condolences to her family.
