Denis taught me in 1957 & 58. I was thinking about him recently and decided to try to find out where he was and maybe contact him. I am saddened that I have missed him by a good couple of years. He was a fine man and became a really good teacher. I, myself, have been teaching for over forty years now and remembered him when I first started and realised the difficulties a young man faced who had no training, a class of 70 or so kids in 5th class and boy did he do a good job. Mind you, he was a product of the times and certainly used whatever means were available to him to inculcate knowledge and learning. We all came through that and now look back with a smile. Thankyou Denis for teaching us and also for amusing us with this Vincents APC's after lunch. Those pink things really did work for him. Sorry about disconnecting the distributor cap in 1962 when we completed Intermediate. I didn't know a thing about cars but was a willing participant in the antics. I think that the fact that Denis was targeted was in some way reverse praise because we all knew that he did his best and it certainly was good enough. RIP VALE if belatedly. One of the twins!!

I miss my Uncle Denis so much everyday, but I feel so blessed and lucky to have had an Uncle like my Uncle Denis in my life. So many happy memories. Birthdays, Christenings, Christmas, weddings, and our regular family get togethers. I learnt so much from him, I can't even begin to describe. Your memory will live in forever in our hearts. Love always, your niece, Alicia xx

I came to know Denis through his teaching at Patrician Brothers' Liverpool. Denis always looked after the cricket teams at the annual Patrician Brothers' Cricket Carnival, with his great mate Br. Basil. The other loves of his life were trains and the Australian Railway Historical Society. I was fortunate to go on a few trips with him, and he was an absolute font of knowledge. He had a great love for the Southern Highlands and maintained his membership of Mittagong RSL. Nothing was ever too much trouble for Denis. Denis's first and foremost love was for the Catholic Church. He often attended Mas at St. Patrick's Church Hill and kept up to date with the 'internal politics' of the Church. With this went his commitment over a long career to the Patrician Brothers, and the thousands of students whose lives he played a part in. May you receive your eternal reward.

I knew Denis through the Berry family, it's been about eighteen years. He was a constant at all Berry gatherings and has played a part in the major events of my life such as my marriage, my son's first birthday party, my son's baptism etc. I think Denis is also dear to the Berry's as he was a remaining link, sharing in the memories of Lance and Georgina following their passing, a remaining link to them. Denis, I'm sorry I cannot be at your send off tomorrow but I will be thinking of you and wish you a safe journey on. I hope Lance and Georgina are there to greet you, what a warm greeting it will be. Godspeed

Denis was a very good friend of mine as i grew up next door to him so ive known him all my life. he was the nicest ,friendliest, warm person you could ever have as a neighbour.we spent hours upon hours chatting over the fence mainly about football and his beloved south sydney team.It was a privilege to know and be associated with him as every one that came in contact with him left them all the better for it. nothing was to hard or troublesome for him.if he could help you he would. always in my heart. you will be sadly missed.
