My memory is of a strong principled hard working man who loved Janet with undying love. I will always be in awe of his physical and mental strength equally matched with the ability to love his Janet and his family. He didn't give much away but I was always sure of his love for his family and his friends. The only thing I was jealous of was his fitness. (he gave me 35 years and still I had to keep up) Always while visiting he would walk further than I ever would have considered myself doing. He was always keen to see my boys Chris and Tim were occupied and safe when we visited him at Portree. Many a time fixing the bloody motorbikes just for the kids. But that was Ed always doing things for others and concerned for everyone else. The world and all who knew him will miss him and have gained something from him. Always in our hearts.

I was very sad to hear that Ed had died, and to his family I send my kindest wishes.
To me, Ed was the quintessential gentleman. I met him when I was an impressionable teenager, and he definitely made an impression. He was such a good man, and I especially remember him having a great laugh, and a wicked, dry sense of humour.
I loved Ed, because he loved Janet Dobson and Janet was my best friends Mum. Ed and Janet shared many wonderful years together and he played an integral role in the lives of Janet's four daughters, Trish, Anne, Jacqui and Sally. He had a particularly special bond with my great friend, Sal, with whom he was especially kind and caring towards. Words don't really adequately describe the void he filled for her. For this I will always think of him with great fondness.
