My memories go back to the 70s when I became Jim's secretary in Townsville at the then TCAE Department of General Studies, and Jim was my first boss there. I was amazed at the way he would lock the door to his office of an afternoon and tell me that he needed a ten-minute nap and no-one could disturb him -- and it was only EVER 10 minutes!! I can remember an embarrassing moment when a lecturer came to the office demanding to see Jim, and I said he wasn't there. At that moment the inner-office door opened and Jim came out, yawning. "Oh", he said, "I came in the back door" -- we were on the second floor of the building!!
In those days Jim and Helga stuck by me through many a thin time, and I have very many happy and interesting memories with you both, especially when I heard about the rendition of "If I was a rich man" in the shower. But also of our trips to Innisfail and Cairns with Madam Butterfly, etc. I have so many other memories, but they will stay for the moment within my heart.
Jim will always be in my heart and my song.
With nuch sadness and love.
