I have been a great fan of the Golden Girls from day one..I remember sitting with my mom (who has passed away) watching the first show and the both of us did not stop laughing until it was over and every week we would continue laughing. Estelle Getty and the rest of the cast made the whole show each with their own personality. Estelle will be greatly missed and I wish her family well. Zyne

I was watching the Golden Girls last night like I always do and at the end popped up my Sophia as I have gotten to know her. I had't heard she had passed, tears filled my eyes and I called my husband at work (12:30ish in the am). to let him know. I can not tell you the countless nights that the Golden Girls have been my therapy. It didn't matter how down I was, these young ladies always manged to lift me up and make me laugh. My Sophia you will be missed. I know you are in heaven now with God and his beautiful serenity. I hope you get to meet my niece Heather Alonzo and send her my hello's she too was an Angel ; who died at the tender age of 14yrs. Take care of one another. I will miss you both. Thanks Estelle "Sophia" Getty for all of the laughs. I will continue to pass on your wit to my grandchildre at night as we sit to watch the Golden Girls together. Keep flying high little butterfly.

Picture this, July 22 in Nashville, Tn I'm catching up with the days news on MSN when I read the sad news Estelle Getty had died. Great saddness filled my face and my heart felt heavy. I started to reflect on the spirit of a amazing woman who made a character seem to be my own grandmother. Growing up in the 80's I loved to watch the Golden Girls with my parents. The show made me reflect on happier times. Now at 32 I'm still a loyal watcher of the show. I made it through many a finals weeks in college thanks to the girls and their ability to keep me focused and laughing. I can't believe that one of my girl's are gone, but a legend always knows when to make an exit. Estelle, REST IN PEACE AND THANKS FOR BEING A FRIEND!

I've always been a great fan of "The Golden Girls." The character that Ms Getty portrayed remined me of my great grand- mother, many at time she has brought me laughter. When I felt down, I would watch her up to her usual stunts, she has brought me joy into my life. God blessed had her with the talent to bring laughter to everyone whom watched her. The Golden Girls has always been my favorite show. These ladies have made me laugh through alot of rough times in life. I was watching when it all started in 1985 and I will continue to watch. Estelle became my "adoptive grandmother" when mine passed away. She was an inspiration to all. I will miss her greatly. I tell my mom that she's going to Shady Pines and I tell my daughter if I live to be 80 I want to be just like Sophia so she had better be ready. Being a kid of the 80's this The Golden Girls was a TV show that my family watched each week and even the re-runs never got old. I have all 7 seasons on DVD. There is an single episode I have not watched. Remember when Sophia ran in the kitchen shaking a kitchen knife scaring the girls after being up late watching a horror movie.......too funny! There are so many. Thanks Estelle for bringing us Sophia in fine style.

After my son died suddenly, I was so depressed, that it was very hard to get out of bed,, and continue my normal routine. When I watched the Golden Girls, that was one thing that made me laugh, and feel better. I always loved Sophia, she reminded, so much of a friend that has also passed. Thanks for the laughs. You just don't know how many people were affected by your program. Thanks to all the Girls.

I have been watching the Golden Girls ever since I was a little girl with my grandmother. I am now 30 and record all the re-runs and watch them everyday. The Golden girls is the best show ever made and I still laugh at all the eposodes. I love the relationship that Sophia and Dorothy had in the show and all the girls together were hysterical. I also remember her in one of my favorite childhood movies, Mannequin. She will continue to make me laugh. I am very sad to here of her passing and will miss her dearly.

My daughter just had a baby, and her name is Sofia. Sofia from the Golden Girls has been a bright star for my daughter and myself. When something wonderful happens, like the birth of my grandbaby, we sang 'Daisy, Daisy', like Sofia did in an episode. Also, we use the phrase, 'Dorothy, move the coffee table, I'd like to do a cartwheel' when something is said that we can't believe. And my favorite, 'Ouch stop me, I'm like a kid in a candy store'. We use that alot. Thank you Estelle for these, and so many wonderful memories that we will teach to our baby, Sofia. Love you Lucy, Dana and Sofia

The Golden Girls has been my all time favorite show since it aired years ago. I still watch them daily and have all DVD seasons. Estelle had fabulous comedic timing and was a joy to watch. I feel like I lost a friend, but am comforted that she is in heaven, and no doubt continuing to make people laugh. We love you Estelle!

It doesn't matter what role Estelle played, her most memorable role will be that of Sophia. What an impact she made on everyone. I still watch the Golden Girls reruns every day. I always enjoyed Estelle as Sofia. As I am heading toward my own Golden years, I hope that I will have half as much spunk and love of life as the Character Sophia that Estelle portrayed. She will be greatly missed. I first saw Estelle on Broadway in Torch Song Trilogy and never laughed so hard in my life. She was Brilliant. I am Italian and my partner at the time was Jewish... When Estelle starred in Golden Girls I was a fan from day one! I still watch in reruns. Estelle as Sophia reminded me so often of my beloved Italian Grandmother who passed in 2001 at age 87. Estelle .. we wish you GOD SPEED and thank you so much for all the laughter. My prayers to her sons and family.

Estelle made Sophia Real to all of us. I have lost a mother several years ago who was so proud to resemble her in real life. Both were Irreverent and falling down funny and could deliver a line with a sparkle in her eyes. I offer my prayers to her loving sons and family who will remember her for who she was.
