I hadn't seen Grant for a number of years when he came up to our house in Clunes after he had parted from his first wife & kids. He was an angry guy at that time. We tried to talk things over with him I recall, to no avail, he left in an unhappy state. After that he disappeared into the woodwork & from what I heard no-one in the family knew where he was. I'm saddened of course to hear of his death, as everyone who knew him is, but also somehow glad to know that at the time of his departure he had it seemed been given a happy 2nd chance at life with Deb, I read a great partner, kids, step kids & good friends. I also read with some sadness that sisters Wendy & Anne as well as a previous good friend 'Atho' no longer played a role in Grants life, as family & old friends are essential in ones life. I grew up with the Curnows from around age 5 to 25 I guess & have fond memories of those times in Castle Hill, which has now completely changed. I recall him being quite a courageous soccer goalkeeper & he was into heaps of activities. He nearly had a hand in my early demise a couple of times at least. Once hang gliding , when he said 'just jump & the kite will take you up'. It took me the other way. Another time I was riding his first Ducati & being different to what I was used to, hit the gear shift instead of the brake & came off. One time we rode up to Port Macquarie on Boxing Day around 1975. We were supposed to get there in one day but due to traffic & the fact that his bike chain keep coming off we had to stay overnight in the bush trying to sleep on the bikes & in a barn. Neither of us had much sleep or clothing & we nearly froze. I hope that the Curnow family are coping under the sad circumstances & I guess the only good thing about this was that Grant died quickly & doing what he loved. We (Margaret & I) hope Debbie pulls through OK & wish her the best in the future.
