Harold Jurd was my Euphonium tutor between 1987 and 1990. In that time I learnt much about life from Mr Jurd - much of which I have only recognised in the years since! 20 years later his words come to me almost daily. His calmness and composure, his wisdom, his integrity. As a teacher I often draw on my memories of him to help me in my work - his students and I remember him with great affection. A great yet humble man from a generation of great men. We will not see their like again.

When I was a young teenager B/M Jurd offered to help me improve as an instrumentalist and gave me a number of lessons on the Euphonium. Obviously this was his area of interest but it was also his way of showing interest in me as a young man. That extended into encouraging me into employment when he wrote a very complimentary reference. Along with a number of other senior men from Earlwood Corps Bandmaster Jurd left a lasting influence upon my life and taught me much, especially in the area of faithful service.

Thanks Dean, The service was emotional, but a celebration of his life and "promotion to glory" . The Earlwood hall was full downstairs and overfllowed into the gallery. Mark Ray assembled a full brass band on the platform as fitting farewell. Matthew Jurd (the.judds@optusnet.com.au)

I appreciated so much the quality of Harold's life and his incredible commitment. We had many great conversations in the short time I was CO at Earlwood. It was also wonderful to have a visit from Harold & Ian when they were holidaying in the UK in the 90's. I am so grateful that our paths came together - even if only for a short time. Thanks you for your comments concerning Dad. He truly was a man of God. We were very grateful to spend time with you when we were on route to Israel and Egypt.
