Helen was a quiet adventurer and a gentle but stubborn individual. She hated being organised but she loved being asked to participate. She never asked for help but accepted it when it was given freely and if she thought it was not causing too many demands on the giver. I admired her spirit, integrity, intelligence and enjoyed her friendship. She loved travelling and six years ago she travelled the silk route through China, Uzbeckistan and Krygistan. She also travelled to many other places before I met her. I admired her as a person who lived her values and I admired her ideas. I thought she was a quietly remarkable woman: she taught English to migrants until travelling on public transport become too much for her and was a support person for two new Australians struggling with the school system. She loved to read and had a fascination with the middle east. She loved theatre and music and she loved Eco her cat. Her network of friends through Women's College were important as was her time in New Guinea - although she was not one to talk a lot about herself or her past. Helen was my buddy. I feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to spend time with her. I'll miss you Helen.
