You were my supervisor for many years at Stanton Library and I respected the way you made and stuck by your decisions. I may not have always agreed with your viewpoint but you did not waver once you had made that decision. You were tough and fought your disease to the very end, and we watched you fight the battle - always remaining positive and upbeat. Thanks for the wonderful cakes you brought in for morning teas and cancer council annual fundraising days. I remember well the muffins and orange cake!! Rest in peace Leonie M

Helen you were taken from this life too soon leaving loved ones behind. Bless you for your commitment to fighting a disease that disconnects so many women from their loving families. The asteem I hold Helen in has grown from our time as colleagues at Stanton Library. She was my supervisor, I would call her a 'dynamo' - not always one I agreed with mind, but that only builds respect - her effect washed through the library like surf on a beach! The staff, like shells were often washed to new heights....and sometimes lows even feeling adrift......some left teetering on a rock at an uncomfortable height with no apparent support...... only to find in themselves the talents and resources she 'knew' you had to 'hold your own' ! Bandages and cottonwool were not in her repetoire but forthrightness, courage, determination, diligence and steely will-power were, and those attributes inspired all around her. The way in which she fought for her life will linger in each of us. If I have painted a picture of a tough woman may I venture into a personal comment on her private life, as I saw it....... Helen knew balance, she gave to each task everything she had but the absolute essence of that energy sprang organically from her love of family, one of the tenderest memories I have is when she set 'a new precedence' ....well for North Sydney..... by breast feeding Alex at work.....she would not have his progress compromised! She taught me perspective between work and family enough that when the opportunity arose that I could run off and experience a 'tree change' I did, and I did it with her help and wisdom. A wave that couldn't be riden has overwhelmed Helen, her essence and wisdom will linger a long time in the whirlpools and eddies.....will we miss her?.....Absolutely!
