Today, 5th August 2011, marks three months of Baba's flight to Glory - borne on angels wings to Heaven - ahead of the rest of us, who one by one will take our flights in tow; according to God's will. As I write this, the song "Amazing Grace", which Achenyo was able to trigger off to blare two months ago and since then - when she could not fix one of Baba's favourite songs online - is a reminder of God's Grace towards Baba and Ebiye as well as all their off-springs, up to the generations yet unborn. Today, as always, we thank God for that Grace that will lead us HOME to join Baba someday. We thank God for doing far more than we can ever ask, think or imagine, according to His will and purpose. We thank God for answering our prayer for Baba (as well as Ebiye) that the blessing of Asher in Deuteronomy 33 v 25(b) ..." as thy days, so shall thy strength be." Amen indeed it will likewise be for Ebiye, as we pray in Jesus name. Amen. We , also thank God for the the overwhelming glowing tributes people from all walks of life and diverse places all over the world have paid in memory of Baba to God be the Glory and honour as Lord Jesus Himself admonished all His followers - "Let your light so shine before men, so that they may glorify your Father in Heaven". May God help us all to keep the Faith and hold the fort till the glorious end. Amen. Daniel on behalf of Baba's children, grand children, great grand children, his nephews, nieces as well as his brothers, sisters, cousins, foster children, friends, fellow believers and even unbelievers in Christ who have been touched in one way or the other during his lifetime.

He was trustworthy and agile even to his last days on earth. He was humble in nature; his sense of humour will always remain with us. A joyful and contented man I have ever seen. Baba had every opportunity to live in affluence but he chose to be himself. A mentor to many i.e a trusted counsellor full of wisdom in his time. He understands people’s feelings and experiences and this sometimes moved him to weep on many occasions. He lived a life of selfless service to both old and young and most importantly his creator. Baba you are no more but these qualities of yours will never be forgotten among us. Continue to rest in the bosom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ till the resurrection day when we shall meet and part no more. Good night baba, we will forever miss you.╬ (Mrs Ajine E. I sincerely miss grandpa and still find it difficult to come to terms with the the fact that he is no more.... Going to Idah without his loving arms there to embrace me and welcome me? I take solace in the confidence I have that he is in a better place.....he is gone to be with the angels in the golden city....no more nights, no more pains, no more tears.... Rest well in the bosom of the lord Baba!!!! Ajimi (Tolu Kuku)

Exactly one month ago, today - 5th June 2011 - Baba passed on peacefully to eternal glory in the fateful Thursday morning of May 5, 2011 at our Idah family home. We all dearly miss him but we will ever fondly remember him and cherish his every memory continually drawing from the inspiration he imparted in all of us – the children. SPECIAL ATTRIBUTES Baba, all his life, was a born leader, who was visionary; selfless; courageous; disciplined; honest; versatile; self reliant and a God-fearing team leader – always leading by example and in modesty never shying away from saying or doing whatever he considered appropriate in any place or situation. It is possible that these special attributes could be unfortunately misconstrued perhaps by some as being domineering or overbearing. These exemplary attributes he demonstrated – without discrimination to any member of the family or outsiders, under strict fundamental Christian principles. As a father, he was very loving and loved; compassionate and firm; hard working and contented with what he (we) had while motivating everyone to honestly strive for excellence in all one had to do without compromise at all times. We are very proud to be his offspring and God helping us we shall keep the Faith and keep the flag flying to hand over to the next generation. Amen. Daniel – Son, on behalf of siblings, grand children & great grand children

Baba was one in a million. I knew Baba as a close friend of my late dad even before I got married into the family. Baba was everything one cherishes in a God fearing man: a father, father in-law, a disciplinarian teacher and an all- rounder exemplary character etc. We knew Baba would not remain in this world forever but we didn’t know he would go so soon because, even at 91 years of age, he was his usual active and strong person at all times till the fateful 5th May 2011 he passed on suddenly . I will not use the word DIED because Baba lives on; where there is no death. May we all like Baba finish well and meet him there – in Heaven - in Jesus name. Amen. - Mrs. Ruth ‘Ladi Agamah

Yes, it was a good long life well spent but yet your departure was sudden. Baba, your love and care covered my sorrows over the death of my mother, husband and son. You were always there for my children and I in prayers and encouragement. But, you left me without the final word of encouragement and an opportunity to say good-bye. It is well; we will meet at Jesus’ feet.

Pa James Attah Agamah was a man with high intelligence-likable to a genius, he was a committed, devoted Christian, and a very sincere man. My father once told me that Pa Agamah stood for truth and he speaks his mind righteously at all times. The story is this; in 1995 when I was preparing to take my spouse, I informed my Dad that the daughter in-law to be, comes from Ugwolawo and my father said he will find out details of the family from his friend, Elder Pa Agamah who is also from Ugwolawo. He said whatever response he gets, will be taken seriously; then I asked why and he said to me that, “The whole of QIC/UEC Congregations at Idah, nobody speaks, stand for truth under any circumstance like Pa James Attah Agamah”. I wondered for a while, why my Dad who is also truthful and upright will rank someone else as excellent; but true to it, he did not fail in this regard, as he gave a frank and fair assessment, which I can attest to today. Pa Agamah is a man with very high level of intellect and while visiting home in 2009, I stopped by his house to see him, after we had not seen for over a decade, but amazingly he recognized me after a close keen look. Although, he never had opportunity for the Western education, he truly appreciated it and ensured that all his children, attained proper education and they made great feats in all their academic endeavours. Pa Agamah is a success story, because he came, he won and he conquered. Finally, what has a beginning must have an end, our amiable Father, goodnight and rest with the Lord. You were born and you grew up at a time that your community, Ugwolawo, was experiencing its first encounter with Christianity and western education. Despite the near total absence of relevant facilities at the time, you detected LIGHT very early in life and you held firmly to it. By so doing you became one of the first people in the community to learn how to read the Bible in Igala and speak elementary English Language. You appreciated rather early, the value of education and you espoused it loudly in the community. You demonstrated your faith in education by investing all you had in the education of your children, relations and Friends. You believed as far back as nineteen forties, that with good education a black man could compete with a white man in any field of learning but especially medicine and law. When your detractors dismissed this as a brag you advised them to wait for history to judge. To you anybody armed with good education could earn a respectable living without government patronage. How right! You extolled the virtue of labour and asked all around you to shun greed and practice self reliance. From my vantage position I could observe that you lived for four clear concerns: your God, your family, your livelihood and your community. As an evangelist and teacher you served and endeared yourself to all and sundry in most of the villages in what is now known as Ofu LGA. However, it was your love for Ugwolawo community that left an indelible legacy. It was instrumental to the meeting of Ugwolawo elders and youths at Ugwolawo in 1952, during which Ugwolawo District Development Association (UDDA) was formed. Inspired by your selfless leadership many sons and daughters of Ugwolawo rose to offer their patriotic services to their home. Even though UDDA is currently in a state of coma the evidence of its achievements is there for all to see. In the hey days of UDDA, I cannot remember any major meeting or activity organized by the UDDA in which you failed to participate despite the fact that you were physically based at Idah. To you and many others with you sacrificed your time, money and other resources to encourage education and development in Ugwolawo, your home; I stand to pay this tribute. To you and other patriots who have gone before you we owe a duty to record our appreciation for your pivotal role in the development of our land. Ugwolawo mourns you and will ever remember you not only as a worthy son but also as a pillar of light and development. Rest assured that the candle you lit is and will ever remain aglow. We wish you perfect Rest in the bosom of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

I was born and grew up in the very early 50's in a small village of Offolijinwa some three minutes drive from Ugwolawo. The subject of this tribute , James Attah Agamah , Baba, was the STAR that beamed the shinning light in the whole community . His influence covered Commerce, Agriculture,Community development services and later , Politics . He embraced Christianity very early and it was the Church that was planted through him and which he was the initial "pastor" that was the agent of progress for the community. The Church was established in 1940 and it provided a medium for learning . I am a beneficiary of this legacy. The Church was my first contact with learning to read and write. Every child that went to school from the village at my time started from the Church-School. The first and only school since then is the Primary School that was established in the early 70's, over 30 years after the Church was founded! The vision of Baba to educate his children became a model not only within Ugwolawo and Idah but indeed the entire Igalaland. This is very unique because Baba himself had no formal Education. Yet from the primitive environment , he came to know so early the importance of Education. By mid-sixties I was going from village to village to my relations to preach Education ! I cited Baba's children each place I went as a MODEL OF MODELS that should be followed. As at the time before his death , he could confidently beat his chest and say like apostle Paul that he had been faithful to his call and expecting to meet Christ for his reward in Heaven ! I imagine Baba saying I HAVE FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT , I HAVE FINISHED THE RACE , I HAVE KEPT THE FAITH...2 Timothy 4:7 . My prayer is that his children that we are and all that are, would focus on his good works and aim at finishing well . This way we will receive THE CROWN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS , WHICH THE LORD , THE RIGHTEOUS JUDGE WILL AWARD...to us who are longing for His appearing .

I have just read through “Footprints of James Attah Agamah” in your father’s memory. He was definitely a man of unusual vision and dedication. It is remarkable that a person from a traditional village with no formal schooling could devote his life to the education of his family to the extent that all eleven children obtained post secondary qualifications. Even more impressive that his success did not make him vainglorious and that, with your mother, he brought the whole family up with idealistic principles. I am sure that many will wish to pay their respects to the great life lived by your father and that the burial will not be a small affair. Please convey my sympathy to your mother and all the family. May James Attah Agamah rest in peace. Deirdre Waddington, Surrey, England

Baba, you have done well. You kept your promise that you will not rest until all our children are well established in such a way that none will depend on the other. You were not only a husband but a father, brother, friend, helper and spiritual leader to the very end of your life. You were the adopted first son of my parents. To my mother, you were the son she never had. To all my siblings, you were their elder brother and mentor. You led many of my relatives to Christ, sent them to school, assisted them to marry and set up their own families. Rest well in the bosom of our Savior, Jesus Christ that you loved so much until we meet to part no more. - Wife (Ebiye) We all grew up to know Baba as an unassuming and wonderful person. He brought us up to be Godly children, hardworking, to maintain high integrity and to be contented with what we have while striving for excellence at all times. Baba is transparently honest, incorruptible and harbors no malice towards anyone. He understood our individual persons and inclinations so well that he related with each of us equally thus resulting in a closely knitted, loving and harmonious family. He has sacrificed all for our well-being from birth and continued to our adulthood up to the end. Baba never made any demands or gave any of us any task for his personal comfort rather he was always full of appreciation for anything done for him no matter how little. All we are today are due to God's providence, Baba's foresight, guidance and personal efforts. There can never be another father like him, apart from God. We have no doubt that you are with the Lord, rest in peace till we meet to part no more. -From children You can have your Kings, rulers and Nobel Prize winners, but we would have none greater than our dear grandfather. Baba was simply the way everyone knew him. The n ame was a perfect portrait of who he was to everybody that had the privile ge of walking across his path . From the passerby, to neighbors and even school pupils who regularly stopped by to ask for a drink from the scorching sun , he was Baba! A kind hearted father with a humble and forthright spirit, full of love and service . Leadership came naturally to him. Soft in words and firm in decisions . Hard work was a way of life, nothing would stop him from rising up early to ring his legendary bell and wake the whole house up for devotion. A practice he carried-on till his departure. Such was grand pa, a superman of some sort, nothing passed by without his knowledge, and he could fix anything that goes wrong with his tools. Even at an advanced age his strength and vigor was amazing. Aging gracefully, his mind remained ever so sharp with words springing from a deep cascade of uncommon wisdom. Words would fail us in describing you. We can never forget how good you were to us , Baba. Remember the fruits you bought on your way back from your outings, the mone ys you gave us for the offering basket at church, the stipends you used to send to us when we were in boarding school, the stories you told us about the good old days , blowing our minds and firing our imaginations. Yo u taught us to know God by your way of life. The choruses that we used t o sing at aduwa (our daily devotion ). Who can ever fill the void, how can we ever forget you , we miss you already. You would always have a shini ng place in our hearts. In our minds you would never die, your legacy lives on , and to live in the hearts of we who knew you is not to die. We are even more consoled that you have gone to be with the Lord who loves you so much. Although we love you to o much to le t you go without our tears, we fear God too much to question him. We also know that you would rather be w ith him than with anyone else because to you “to live is Christ and to die is gain” . If it were possible , we would have you stay on with us forever. But the Lord has his ways; he obviously needed his soldier home to rest from his labor. You have impacted o ur lives deeply, and we would match on in the faith you taught us, in this we owe you to succeed. Baba, thank you for the memorable moments, for the kind acts of love, for showing us that life is all about love, for the little details that mattered to you. We do not think that you have passed away, but we think that you have moved to a greater calling, to be with the angels in the golden city where you belong. We look forward to seeing you on that glorious resurrection morning with the Lord. Until then, sleep well our patriarch, our hero, our dear Baba. - From Grand children This is a summary of what Baba was and did for us: (1) He initiated our education and that of many other children around us. (2) He brought us and many other people to know the Lord Jesus Christ as personal savior. (3) He was an education campaigner in Igalaland. (4) He was full of wisdom, valuable proverbs and perfect integrity. (5) He was a peace-maker. (5) Most of us remember him as THE CONTAINER OF TRUTH. Enegbani, I am definitely coming behind at my own time to stay together with you at the feet of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ who you taught me of His Kingdom promise. Adieu! Adieu!! Adieu!!! - Elder Gabriel S. Ikani (for foster children) As our elder brother, he never insulted or beat us. He took care of us from our tender age when we lost our mother to the end of his life. He always tells us the truth and gave good advice in all areas of our lives. We cannot list all that he gave us – food, money, physical protection / accommodation, counseling etc. We owe our salvation to him as he led us to Christ. He did not maltreat those of us that lived with him – always kind and considerate; he was more like a father than a brother. He made sure that we went to school, even at old age in some instances. He was humble and could do any menial job for anyone till the end of his life. In many ways, God sent him to liberate our family and he did very well in that respect. May God grant him eternal rest. - The children of Agamah Akwu The death of Elder (Pa) James Attah Agamah is a colossal loss , the demise of a forthright man and twilight on a rare community development icon. As President of UDDA, he brought practical innovations to the development of the entire district, including the creation of Ofu Local Government Area. He will be remembered for his courage, decisiveness, foresight and commitment. It is now our challenge to sustain his zeal for a socially and spiritually enhanced Igala kingdom. May His Soul rest in peace. - Dr. Yakubu Haruna Ugwolawo, former UDDA Secretary - For Ugwolawo Community To all the children and grandchildren of Elder J. A. Agamah “You should all be proud of your father and his achievements and for the kind of family he raised.” - Ms A. D. Waddington, from U.K – by SMS
