James was always very supportive of composers new works when he was head of AMC. We had a number of concerts there and he was always enthusiastic and very energetic, He insisted that I go to London for the premiere of my dance work for London Contemporary Dance Co. For James anything was possible. He was a most remarkable man. He achieved so much for composers and for Australian Music as well as his own outstanding life achievements. Thank-you James. R.I.P.
James very kindly agreed to meet with me in Sydney a number of years ago, and generously gave his time and knowledge to discuss Peggy Glanville Hicks and the Australian music scene as I was beginning my career as a young composer. I learnt a wealth of knowledge that day, and still think very fondly of his generosity in sharing his fascinating history with me. Rest in Peace.
