I leave this memory for not only my niece but my courageous sister who has survived the past year with strength and dignity. Kelly your soul is finally at peace, I told you once that your mother would not be strong enough to walk the long lonely path of grief, you have left her an angel to look after and Tenisha is a much loved little girl who brings light to your mums darkest days and turns her tears to smiles and laughter, I know you are looking down on them both with love and pride, please let them know you are near and give your mum the encouragment to continue her journey. This first year anniversary has made it painfully clear that you are not coming back. I think of you everyday but this day looms larger than most. Special days that we always spent together have come and gone. I have lost you, your love, your laughter and there is very little reprieve from the constant ache in my heart. As I sit and try to write something, words fail me and my tears start to fall. The news of your death and ensuing days of painful decision making and confusion seem like yesterday. With this comes the fear that very little recovery has taken place. It saddens me what you had to overcome in your life. You always spoke to me about your addiction with regret and with the confidence that one day you would be free from the dark place you were in. It was hard to watch you grow from a girl to a woman only to see your life and future stolen by something we were both unable to fight in the end. It was painful to watch your body crave this drug most times to the point of terror. There is a gaping hole in my heart since you have been gone but I thank you for the gift of Tenisha as she makes the sun shine a little bit brighter. Today I have given myself permission to be angry, sad, cry, yell and scream but at the same time I will remember how blessed I was to have you in my life. Despite your drug use you were very much loved by Marty and I. This is such a sad end to a long and destructive journey. For the rest of my life I will mourn for you and your precious memories will warm my cold heart. I find comfort in knowing you are in a better place where you will no longer suffer. I love you. I didn't know you for very long as you were gone too soon. You used to light up the room with your bright smile, its now pretty dull. Thank you for sharing your prescious daughter, who made me laugh, she would squeal with excitement when she saw you! As I remember you I am filled with the sadness of such a tragic loss. A loss I feel very deeply. I am so grateful I had the opportunity to have known you. We had different lives but we were kindrid spirits. I miss you and will carry the memory of you in my heart for as long as I live. Debbie thank you for remembering me from time to time, it has meant a lot. My warmest wishes to you and Tenisha.
