I had the honor of staying in the home of the Beckers in 1976. Leon&Freda were my host family when I was an exchange student. Leon was one of the finest men I had ever met. Leon is listed in the Guiness Book of records as the youngest best man ever, aged 17, to my dear, late father. My darling mother will be very saddened by his passing. Growing up there were many evenings and general get togethers in my parents house with radio and musical colleagues & friends.The memories of these wonderful gatherings amongst both Leon & Freda's company are fondly etched in mind and are a big part of my life. In an indirect way Leon was a real mentor to me as a radio producer and writer We spent many happy hours talking about radio in a previous era, the on air personalities he had met, how he had overcome some difficult sitiations, what worked, what didn`t work, how at times he and his staff created something out of nothing. I wish I could have gotten him to open up about Artransa Park and how the studio grew into the success it became. It was best to let him share his experiences in a non directed way Leon did his radio training with Bryson Taylor who was one of the best radio trainers Australia has ever had before startingat 2KM in Kempsey He was also a great singer and I remember one afternoon tea along wirh my Dad who was an airforce colleaugue and Freda sitting in the lounge room while we sang some old time tunes together I shall miss him, our afternoon teas and his friendship Neil Stephen Cranmer
