Though I had not seen Michael for a number of years, we had stayed in touch by email. Michael was a perfect example of a person that played hard and worked even harder. Episodes involving an impromptu toga party during a fly-fishing weekend in Turangi, drinking special whiskey in the Marlborough Sounds and being fairly boisterous in a few of Wellington’s more prestigious restaurants on a Friday afternoon are indelibly etched in my memory. I worked on the same side of the table as Michael and also across it – on either side he was a man of absolute integrity and honesty. He is a great loss to the technology industry in the region and he will be missed. My love to Sue and his family today during this incredibly tough time.

Spending the summer holidays at Portage in the Marlborough sounds enjoying the hospitality of friends, diving, sailing and of course the pub. I hadn't seen Michael for a number of years when we last meet and it only seamed like a few weeks. I'm not sure why we ended the evening shirts off doing the haka but that's an evening with Michael. Michael was a great leader and role model. The memory of his integrity, affection for people and irrepressible optimism continues to inspires us.
