I always wanted to be a jazz pianist so I decided to take piano lessons. The teacher asked me at my first lesson who would you like to play like? I said Oscar Petersen. He said name someone else.

My first memory of Oscar Peterson was Jazz at the Philharmonic in St.Louis shortly after he came from Canada. It was a performance I have never forgotten. I consider myself fortunate to have enjoyed his music over the years,

Mr. Perterson's death is a great loss to Canada and to those of us who loved and appreciated the man and his music. .
As one of the greatest jazz musician of our time, his memory will surely live on through his family, friends and fans.
My sincere condolence to his family.

It's safe to say that although Canada produces phenomenal artistic talent, there will never be another Canadian musical talent like Oscar Peteson. Just too big a presence to be replicated anywhere, not just Canada.
