I am a former Governor of Alaska (1986-1990), but in 1971-1972 I was a US newspaper reporter in Kolkata, covering the India-Pakistan war, and keenly aware that my country supported the wrong side. General Sam Manekshaw was the hero of the day. Bangladesh owes him a debt that can never be repaid, and the US owes Bangladesh, India, and especially General Manekshaw an apology that likely will never come. May the world long remember this man of courage and honor.

India will miss its bravest son and one of the finest leaders ever produced! May Sam Manekshaw be born again in India and this time he goes on to join politics. Indian politics badly needs a leader of Sir Sam's stature. Ashish Masson

He was an able commander, motivator and soldier. He was part of our lives when we were growing up, and he stood like a colosus amidst the major wars that unfolded in independent India's history. His life story motivates us to strive higher for the ulitmate good in our lives.
