Justice was almost served here .Silas can never be bought back .I hope that Mr. Parent sees the error of his ways every day he is incarcerated and I hope above all the family has closure and peace .I am always amazed at how families can find strength and positive outlook after losing a child .

If a guy with 60+ prior offenses is "not likely to reoffend" according to his lawyer, than who is ever likely to reoffend?? I swear if this dirt bag caused this much hurt in my family, I would personally hunt him down and lynch him in the deep woods somewhere. What Canadian justice system needs to learn is there's no rehabilitation for some people. Sometimes, the only option available is to lock them up and throw the keys away for good. As a society, we would be much better off with these scumbags under lock and key than out and about.

Michelle, Roger, and family. It's been three years since you lost your precious son. This comes from one who lost his seven years ago. We know. Isn't it strange how somehow life can come back to us despite our loss? Whenever the thought of Silas comes to mind, I think you might do what we do; simply live the memory of that moment which will be both painful and not so painful. Should you care to know how I from Ohio, USA arrived here, it was while viewing different versions of "All my Tears" on YouTube. The tribute to Silas simply got to me. What a beautiful tribute the group and especially the lead singer did. I don't know if it's proper to do so here, but should you care to send me an email, I'm at mlcotsman@att.net. My thoughts of care to you and family again. Mike Cotsman

This horrible tragic story is one you only see in movies! I know Silas' Dad and if he was anything like his father, he is one amazing soul that can never be replaced and will be dearly missed. My heart goes out to the friends and family of Silas and may justice take care of the monster that took him away and created all this pain! ~DTX~

Mr & Mrs O'Brien I don't know you or Silas, but this tragedy has touched my heart. I have been crying despite not knowing you personally, and i can't imagine the loss you must be feeling. I pray to God that he keeps giving you and your family the strenght to hold on strong and come to terms with your loss. God will reward you for your patience and justice will prevail. JK

What an awesome example the O'Brien Family have set... it renews my faith to see that God can take a tragedy, and allow goodness to flow out of it. Blessings to Mr.& Mrs. O'Brien, and immediate family, church family, and extended family. May the Family of Christ continue to grow as they watch you walk in the Lord. I'm a more recent Christian, with a young son who loves the Lord, and we call him our 'little evangelist'. When he did see this on the news, and that his Mommy had tears in her eyes, this little guy (special needs) patted him Mommy's back, and said, 'Him with Jesus now... no worry'. The faith of a child... and so, as the world watches the outcome of the this tragedy, here you are walking with the Lord, and if there be only 1 person turn to Christ, well you'll know that Silas will be with all the angels in Heaven, rejoicing. May God continue to grant you the strength to deal with the earthly loss of Silas, and I pray that you all recall that even our Lord had tears in His eyes when He heard that Lazarus had died, and saw the grief of the people. Let your tears flow when they need to, even if there are enough to build a stairway to heaven... for one day, you will climb those very stairs, and be rejoicing the Lord with Silas. For those of us unable to attend the services for young Silas, I hope when Mrs. O'Brien is able, that she might consider sharing the words of the song she wrote for her young son. Bless you all, we will pray for you, and for the person that 'walks of the world' that needs to face up to his sin... May a seed be planted in this person's heart, and that God is now allowing it to root. Peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you, xox

Michelle, Roger and Family, We are extremely sorry for your loss and are hoping your faith will carry you through this most unfortunate tragedy. Your family made a huge impression on both of us, and we haved missed you all tremendously since you left the Yukon. We think of you often and enjoy fond memories of all your children playing in Versluce Meadow throughout the seasons. It is impossible for us to express our sorrow for you at this time. Our hearts are so full of grief. We are crying with you. May your faith and love keep you all strong through this tragic time. Our Love, Suzanne and Kevin McDonald

I never knew Silas....I only know I am saddened because his life was far too short.. now he has returned to the Source of the Love that made all of us....May we who remain, never forget the Divine, the essence of who we are.... and now may we work to change this hurting world for the good, in his memory....For if not now, then when? And if not you and I....then who will do this?

His birthday is Oct.21st 1986........ Thank you, to all of whose hearts are broken along with myself , my husband, my lovely children, my precious in law children, and our delightful grandchildren. Your expression of love and concern helps us cry yet oddly feel comforted. In spite of the difference we all may have in our means of expressing our faith in God ( Christian, Muslim, Hindu, and so on) I recognize in most of us a deep deep calling for good to overcome evil, especially in the angry ridden world we are all subjected to in this season of time. If we all could come to grips in each of our own individual lives with the power of forgiveness it could have quite a compounding effect...wouldn't you agree. I wasn't much good at that myself....in fact found it quite impossible until I made a priceless discovery that my Lord....His name being Jesus Christ did all that forgiving already for me and to anyone who could just accept what He offered. Yes, we miss that gentle tender boy so very much and probably always will until the day we pass over the curtain of our time here when we expect him to greet us there in that well anticipated place we refer to as heaven. If we were to ask him to please return home ( a selfish request on our part) I'm sure he would say....Please, I just love this place. Don't ask me to go back. If in this dynamic moment of loss and sorrow even one soul could be saved our Silas's passing was not in vain. With love and appreciation to all......Michelle O'Brien
