When I heard the news that Dan had passed, tears fell down my face. It was as if I lost a close family member. I have been a fan since the beginning of his music. I have seen him live three times & solo at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena. What a powerful & spellbinding performance. Dan & his music have gotten me through troubled times and good times. His music will live on with us forever!!!!! May your family find comfort during this sad time knowing that Dan is filling the heavens with his angelic voice and will be watching over all of us. Dan Fogelberg taught me to listen to the words behind the music. In '76 a freshman in college. The first tears I cried listening to an artist was with Dan. I actually read all his words and thought of how they applied to my life. Even today after his death, I shared Christmas today with my 89 year old Father, and "Leader of the Band" ran through my mind. Thank you Dan. Keep sininging we still hear you.

Dan always seemed so sensitive...I felt those feelings many times...He was brave to articulate the many aspects of love. I will always..always..remember him, his music, and his messages....Keep trying to find, hold onto, and make love stay....rest in peace..

For over 30 years I have listed to and played from Dan's entire catalogue. His music always cut past the facade of popular music and went deep into the heart and mind. If art is a tangible way to communicate and evoke intangible thoughts and feelings, Dan was a grand master. Although his powerful, stinging ballads are best known; many of his works probed into the very questions of the meaning of our existense. As a post-Woodstock musician of the early 70's, I at first came to enjoy his creative and melodic chord progressions absent in so much of the work in those days (essentially void in today's "work"). Over the years, as I grew to experience many of the trials and dissapointments of the modern relationship, it was always a comfort to know that someone had already been there and helped to talk through tears and search for a way to go on. "One road was simple Acceptance of life The other road offered sweet peace When I made my decision My vision became my release" Sweet Peace, Dan.

When I was around 15, my oldest brother gave me an album, "Twins Sons of Different Mothers". Me, a rocker by nature, looked at this album back in '79 when he gave it to me, and wondered, what the heck?? Who is this Fogelberg guy? Who's Weisberg? Ended up being one of my most favorite albums in my life. One of the first CD's I had to buy when CDs came out(of course I still have the original LP). Since that time, Dan became my most favorite artist. In high school, with Same Old Lang Syne, he then introduced me to Innocent Age. I had to dig deeper into Fogelberg. I went back. Purchased his early years...not knowing he was the "part of the plan". Now in my 40's, he has been a Tremendous part of my life all these years... times when I need a pick me up, when I need a little more conciousness about what's going on around me, Dan's there. His music.. His concern for our own planet, his lyric.... His music was inspiring. His guitar playing was amazing. I loved the solo moments... (listening to Innocent Age right now)... Dan.. You Will Be Truly Missed....

My dad who loved and inspired me to listen to all kinds of music died in May of 2003. This isn't about Leader of the Band by the way.... All I could think of was after his passing was...where is my dad? I needed to know where he had gone. I couldn't listen to music at all. Just couldn't do it. I decided to get away with my best friend for a week. We have both listened to Dan since 1972. After having driven for about 5 hours, she said let's listen to Dan. The first song that came on in the CD was Only the Heart May Know. "Starry skies, soft lullabies...Where do they go when their melody dies...To a day, far, far away, that only the heart may know... Friends we knew follow us through all of the days of our lives Love we shared waits for us there where our wishes forever reside." It was then that I knew where my dad was...in my heart. This helped me start listening to music again...mostly his. I'm forever in his debt for this song that he sang with Emmylou Harris. My deepest condolences to Jean. Thanks Dan for everything.

From the moment I heard "Run for the Roses" he was mine. He shared a love for horses, nature, the earth and the sea. A true earthling. I pray I will see him in the future on an earthly paradise with no more sickness, sorrow or death. I love you, Dan.

HIs music was wonderous -his lyrics always so meaningful; his voice so soothing. I saw him 3 times in concert and my most touching memory was 'Leader of the Band', acoustic - where he sang with all his heart for his father. I just found out yesterday that Dan passed.....we've lost an artist, but will always have his music to soothe our souls.

I've been listening to Dan's music since the late 70's. I was always amazed by his eloquence and heartfelt lyrics. I haven't stopped crying since I heard the news. as i pack up x-mas cookies to deliver, and listening to dan's cd, tears come to my eyes as i feel like i 've lost a family member. his music has gotten me through bad times as well as good. i've seen him solo and....what a performance! there will never be any like him. i know you are singing in the heavens the christmas!

If we are to "Judge" people at the end of their existance, then Dan Fogelberg will go down as a giant amongst men. I have never been so at ease watching and listening to an artist, as much as Dan. To have left behind so much feeling and love in his written words says so much about the man. I've never met him, yet I know him. Even to the end, his dignity was so important to him. I remember the first time i heard your music, was in my art class back in 1977.The class had a 8 track player and i didnt even know who this guy was. Souviners was the tape.I absolutely loved that tape.The class wore it out. That tape inspired me to become a artist to this day. I was fortunate to see him in Indy in 1982. He was just as good live as he was on lp.Your music will remaine in our hearts forever. Thanks for the many great years!

I saw Dan and his guitar in an acoustic show he did in Beantown back in the late 70'. He was drinking whiskey and smoking cigarettes and making us more and more comfortable the longer he played. He was wearing a wallace berry shirt like on the cover of "Souvenirs"and some old jeans. It was captivating the way he filled that hall with just his voice and guitar. I was twenty. He twenty six. Gonna miss that guy..a lot.

MY life is run through with the fruit of this Man's work. At hearing of his passing I cried like I had lost a friend. The emotional metaphores he shared were so accessible to me and I will never be able to adequately express how deeply touched I have been by his music. Back in 1997 I believe it was, Dan Fogelberg did a concert in Richardson Texas. I think it was our Wildflower Festival. Me and 3 of my friends who are DIE HARD fans went to the concert. One of the friends had a friend who dated Dan's room mate in college and she thought maybe we could find a way to see him. After the concert, we found his bus outside parked on the other side of some chest high bushes. None of the other concert goers seemed to share in our discovery...So, here we are, 4, 40 something women standing outside singing, "We love you Dan oh yes we do"...etc etc....Some one did walk by and said that he didn't give autograph's. We didn't care...we kept singing...pretty soon we noticed flickering light in the bus. Dan and the band were in there holding Bic Lighters to our serenades..hehe.....He finally did come out and sign autographs. He looked wonderful and had Jean with him. That was the first time we had seen her. The two of them looked very happy. My most recent memory is when I went to see him in Atlantic City during his "Full Circle" tour. It was fabulous but halfway through the show I started crying and my husband asked me what was wrong and I told him that I just got this profound feeling that I'd never see him in concert again and had a sense of forboding...he was diagnosed not long after that. I'll miss him and his genius as a musician. Funny how he always knew what was in my heart and wrote a song about it. Fair Winds and Following Seas Dear Dan My condolences to his poor poor Mother. I'll never forget seeing Dan at Chastain in Atlanta. I arrived late and was standing on the stairs going down to my seat, mesmerized by him on the stage. I swear he looked at me and my heart stopped. I seriously think I have been in love with him and (like all romantic women who've listened to his music) would have melted into a pool of butter if I'd ever shaken his hand and looked into those eyes. He will be missed greatly by me. I will ensure my children know who he is and will pass along his music to them. What else can I do -- except weep and wish solace for his family. Did he have children, I pray, to carry on his legacy?

There is something in his magical in his voice and music that brings the memories of good old days of 18-20 th year of my life back when I first heard his song. The memories become so fresh as if I am living in those days even when now I am in my 30s.

Truly one of the most gifted musicians to have evr lived..He had it all..I'm so sad I'll never see and hear him in person again......Rest In Peace..And Thank you for the great music.

I was introduced to Dan's wonderful music by new friends I met in Leadville Colorado. They played the Nether Lands LP for me and I have never been the same since. The music of Dan Fogelberg has helped me to appreciate life and friendship. I will never forget Dan and consider him a cherished friend even though we have never met. I knew of Dan in the 70's but it wasn't until 2002 when my daughter became ill and found great inspiration, peace and enlightenment from his music. She became a devotee of Dans and always will be, his music and lyrics have helped her immeasurably. Thank you Dan for all you gave her and continue to. God bless you and rest in peace dear man.

I can remember the first time I ever heard "To The Morning". At that time I knew Dan by his "hits" but my friend, the late great Mark Witt turned me on to Dan's entire catalog. I know "Exiles" was written about his divorce but that doesn't change the fact that "Hearts In Decline" is as killer a heart rending song as one is ever likely to come across. I knew every song on "The Innocent Age" both forward and backward but "The Reach" and "Nexus" will always be my faves from that paticular release. I would also like to leave a memory about my late friend Mark who despite being a very intelligent person would sometimes pronounce words in a way slightly different from their proper enunciation and I always remember him pronouncing "Fogelberg" as "Fogelbee". Actually, that was the first thing I thought of when I heard the sad news of Dan's demise. In a perfect universe Mark and Dan have met up and shared a good laugh over that one. Dan, ol buddy, ol' pal, you will never know how your words and music and musicanship touched my heart and soul. Thank you for so many wonderful hours of immersing myself in the wonderment of your talent and Jean, my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Take pleasure in the memories of all the good times I'm sure you two had and keep Dan alive by the vibrancy of that rememberance. Peace and comfort to everyone during this time of sad but profound reflection.
