As the new year approaches, we will be singing Auld Lang Syne and thinking of Dan. Eric
I had the good fortune of seeing Dan Fogelberg in concert three times, in 1991, 1995 and 2003...when he was promoting his last CD, Full Circle. I have been listening to Dan's music for about 30 years. His lyrics and melodies have lifted me up on many occasions. You can't find too many musicians anymore of his caliber. Dan didn't need "American Idol" to get his start. His natural talent alone was enough...something a lot of singers today are sorely lacking. Dan was an excellent storyteller, pianist, and guitar player. I love all of his music, but one of my favorites from him is "Icarus Ascending". I also love the melody and lyrics to "Heart Hotels." His Christmas album is top class. All of his music is timeless. Dan will be missed greatly by fans like me all across the world. I'm sure he is now serenading the angels. Vaya con dios, Dan.
I'm working on a new Dan Fogelberg tribute song called It'll Never be the Same Old Lang Syne. I'll be posting it as a free song on my website: http://www.drblt.net
I miss you so much, I was just thinking of you, you are in my heart for always. I loved your music, you are mighty and very loved
Thank you for your beautiful songs.. There were some rough times in my younger years and your songs were all that I felt would save me. My heart aches for your passing.. I will remember you always and be thankful for your beautiful words and music. I know there will be even more beautiful music in heaven now that you are there.
I first started listening to Dans music in 1980, I was so moved by his heart felt words. The song that struck me the most was, Go down easy. I have never met Dan, but I know from his music that he was a wonderful person. He will be sadly missed.
I remember in 1989 asking some co-workers "who sang that song of the Christmas Eve tale". I don't know how the name ever came to me, as I wasn't familiar with Dan at the time, but that night as I was bathing, his name came to me! I found out the next day it was on "Innocent Age", and I went and bought a copy, which became the first of many recordings I own from him, and a trip to his Columbus OH concert in 1997 or 1998. I'm sad that his voice is silenced, but thankful for the thoughts he recorded for us to have.
I was lucky enough to have seen Dan Fogelberg perform in the 1970's and 1980's. I was also very fortunate to have met him in person and discussed his musical influences. Even though he did not win any Grammys nor receive due praise for his songwriting skills, he will always deserve a special place in any true music fan's heart. Dan Fogelberg loved playing music for the sake of music. It is that simple. His presence will be sorely missed. I hope that Dan, Warren Zevon and Jim Croce are having one hell of a jam session right now.
Dan, even though we never met I feel as if I've lost a close friend. You gave so much of your life to your listeners through your beautiful, poetic lyrics. That's why we are all grieving. Your music has been there for me my whole life, in good times and in bad. I never had to struggle to understand-I always got it. Rest in peace. "Be on your way, maybe someday we will meet again."
I am a 60 year old guy from the UK and the song Longer Than is etched in my memory. god bless
I first heard Dan's music the winter of 1975. I played "Long Way Home" over and over because it touched me where I lived. Little did I know just how much until I heard the country calling to me. Come spring, I fled the city for the San Juan's of Colorado. I was indeed Home Free and so many of his songs became a prayer. Southern Colorado will always be "home" to me. Dan is now safely Home Free. Rest in peace there, kind man. I'll see you when I too cross that river.
I remember the first time I heard Dan Fogelberg- the song was Longer- such a beautiful song- from a beautiful person. All of his music made me think about love and how life should be. He will be so greatly missed. And he is so greatly appreciated for touching so many people. Rest in peace.
I was turned on to Souvenirs back in Indiana in the mid-seventies. I became a lifelong fan. I, like Dan skipped one year getting tested. I, like Dan found out had Prostate cancer in early 2005 but not as advanced. Guys, wive's, girfriends...make the men in your life get a yearly PSA test!!! Dan, Thanks for your Music and Thanks for raising awareness. I promise I will try and do my part. Tim Boman Salt lake city
Now the Seasons are changing from Summer to Fall And I still have that picture hung on my wall And there's so much forgotten, and to much recalled... And why did you leave at all....
It was 1974 and had tickets to see the Eagles with special guest Linda Ronstadt. The announcer notified the crowd that Ms. Ronstadt was unable to appear due to a throat ailment and that a new young performer would be sitting in. It was then that he introduced Dan Fogelberg to the stage. The crowd around us was all going who????? Well he wasn't on that stage for 10 minutes and you could hear a pin drop. He totally enthralled that crowd and he has been my all time favorite singer and song writer since. There is not one release that I do not own. I always felt that this man was looking in my window and singing about my life. Divorce painful as it was was soothed by his meaningful lyrics and wonderful voice. He shall be forever missed in my life. My prayers of strength and comfort to Jean and his family. Heaven has a new angel.
I saw Dan perform on my birthday at at Red Rocks (I believe it was in 2000). The best birthday I've ever had. His "Leader of the Band" is such an inspiration for us to think of our departed fathers. It's such a beatiful song to hold in our hearts and memories. Rest in peace Dan. I hope you meet my father.
Dan's music touched me in my youth when I lived in Australia as a young designer and was still buying and listening to him these last few years where I live in London (UK)....Souvenirs is the album I will always love. A great loss!
"The album souvenirs I shared with my first true girlfriend we rented an apartment 1975 and listened to that album until we would fall asleep . When ever I hear one of Dans songs I sigh...were is that time machine I would go back in a heartbeat". jeff allen louisville ky
I'm from Peoria, IL I saw him at the barn when he just started he was opening for someone. I just thought he was great, I wanted to hear more. He will be missed.
Dan Fogelberg touched my soul like no other human being. His lyrics were so remincent of my own life memories and experiences. I grieve anyone who is suffering this great lose (fans or family members)! I can't stop crying and my heart is completely broken! No one alive was a better soul than Dan Fogelberg! Seeing him again will be my only comfort in heaven! I can't stop listening to that song! Love you Dan!

dan fogelberg was a inspiration in my live, as a child back in the 70's these guys jumped out /w the most buetifull music. gary wright dram weaver another inspiration but dan was the man for me when i needed heeling it took only his voice to do it dan i know you're music is up there swaying ythe angels RIP BROTHER TIM HAWKINS AKRON OHIO
I first learned of Dan Fogelberg when I was about 16 years old. he was just eight years my senior. I would lay in my bedroom and listen to "Netherlands" over and over and over again. I was becoming a musician at that time. I want to write as Dan wrote. I wanted to speak to people as Dan spoke to me. I wanted lyrics that described emotion, like Dan did. I went on to perform for the next 10 years or so. There was never a night that I didin't include a Fogelberg tune. It always touched people. I loved sharing his music. I recorded Sketches a few years back. I loved the project, the lyrics, the music and the arrangement. But it wasn't Fogelberg. I thank you Dan, from one musician to another. Though we never met, I connected with you on so many levels. My heart goes out to those who knew and loved you personally. You are a champion.
Seems like Iost a personal friend... Thanks for every note and lyric. It is hard for me to believe I will never again see Dan Fogelberg live in concert. My husband and I flew from Jacksonville, Fl to Colorado, to see him perform in the "Red Rocks" Ampatheatre. His music was made for that beautiful outdoor venue. I have seen him many times, have his music on LPs. casset tapes and CDs (actually purchasing new copies as music technology progressed). I used his music in my wedding and many times while listening to several cuts thought how beautifully he could put feelings I struggled with to music. Any time I saw him in concert he seemed so genuine and personable, even from stage. One memorable concert featured him, alone with his guitar in a South Florida indoor venue. It was like you were sitting in your livingroom with him, listening to a friend play his music. I can only imagine those who really knew him are in total disbelief. Now his spirit is free, and I'm sure there's a special place for him on the other side. What a wonderful gift he was and gave to so many. I would have loved to take my young son to a live performance. I'm glad I was "turned on" to his music in the 70's, I enjoyed every track/lyric. God Bless his family.
... as a singer/guitarist, and I became better because of it. I always told people that my initials are FD and his were DF, I'm from New Mexico and he hung out in Colorado. Coincidence? I think not......
It is hard to express how much someone you have never met can touch your life so deeply. The music has been an inspiration and will continue to move me through the years to come. May God give you peace and rest. "May the road rise up to meet you, may your heart rejoice in song. May the sky be fair above you, as you journey ever on."
To many memories to count. Dan's music is the soundtrack of my life. From 1972 hanging out in Nederland to catch a glimps. Keeping an eye out for the true lyrics to 'Song from Half Mountain". "Now the dream is rising In a moment it will be past. This breath is my first It will all too soon be my last. And on a windy coast I made several toasts, To you and me and the sea and no one heard " You are loved, you will be missed. We'll see you again on the other side when we get there you can play for us your new songs.
The last time I saw Dan perform (Glenside, Pennsylvania at the Keswick Theater) he played "The Last Nail", my all-time favorite Dan song. I'd never seen him perform that song, at any of the 6 shows I was fortunate enough to attend, in the 30 years he and his music have been a part of my life. And I always hoped he would, but I finally accepted that it just wasn't part of his stage show and I'd never see it. Well, that night, he did, for whatever reason, and it was magic!! And I turned to my daughter and said "now, I can die happy, I've seen Dan perform "The Last Nail". How heartbreaking that a few years later we are saying goodbye to such an amazing soul. Godspeed Dan, you've enriched my life in ways I could never repay.
The first song I ever heard was "changing horses in the middle of the stream' and perservered until I found out who had the melodious voice. He gave the most personal concert I ever attended. A true artist is the one who's gift lives on. Too young to leave this life. Soo sad.
"Await your arrival, a simple survival One day, we'll all understand." May your spirit ring in our hearts forever.
Dan, saddness fills my eyes. You were the greatness songwriter to ever come into this life. I loved your music so much. I listened to it all the time in the 70's when my roommate brought it home. That was it I was hooked. Throughout the years, your music has been there to help me through the hard times and the good. I love you man! I'm sad at your passing, but your dad must be thrilled! God bless your family here. you will be missed.
I first listened to Dan in my basement at age 16 and I fell in love with him. His music, as well as his lyrics, were so true to me. He will be missed by all those he blessed with his talent.
he was never out of my record/cd collection since first introduced to his music by an exgirlfriend some 20years ago, wonderful singer and songwriter, pure quality
I've listened to Dan's music since I was introduced to 'Illinois' by an army buddy. The night my wife and I were wed we attended his concert at the U of I, October,10, 1981. We will miss him tremendously but enjoy all the memories he has given to us. His music is the soundtrack of our lives together. Our hearts go out to Dan's family.
Dan's lyrics, music, voice and persona transcends time and space and will continue on. He graced life with integrity and beauty Thank you for your love of music. Love and enduring peace DJAYNEBROWN
I saw Dan several times, always awsome. He inspired Me with his music. I learneed everything I could. His music helps me stay grounded and made me aware of what we're doing to our planet. his spirit will live on, as well as his music. I feel I've lost and old FRIEND.
This Man Dan Fogelberg will go down in History as one of my all all time favorite Musicians for which Im grateful to have listened to.He was extraordinary in every stretch of the imagination.HE WILL BE MISSED BY ME AND I WILL NEVER FORGET WHAT EFFECT HE HAD ON MY LIFE...God bless you Dan Fogelberg and I will always always cherish your music till the day I die...
I am shock to find out his dealth, he is one of my all time song writers and singers. I especially liked his song "'Auld Lang Syne" especially being played on the radio during Christmas time. It already reminded me the relationship I once had and lost.
I have loved Dan's music for 30 years. I own every one of his albums and was fortunate enough to see him in concert 4 times (all great shows). Without a doubt, he was one of the most talented people in the music industry. On many studio tracks, he played all the instruments himself. A one-man band - quite amazing. His songs brought so much to my life - joy, inspiration, introspection - and they will always will. I learned to play many of your songs on guitar and I will continue to do so for years to come. As I write this, I am listening to "The Long Way", a beautiful song that brings on a flood of emotions. Then again, all of Dan's songs touch the listener in so many ways. May God rest your soul Dan. Your music made the world was a much better place. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Dan captured exactly the ennui that we all feel as we grew older and go through relationships and of running into "old lovers". It is such a bitterwsweet, haunting song and my favorite of all Dan's songs.
i went to the same high school as he did. we as a school were very proud of him cause here was this famous singer and he came from this midwestern town. even though i graduated 17 years after he walked the halls of woodruff high school it was exciting to know that some one famous went to our school. i hope he kept that warrior pride and carried it with him to heaven.
I want to thank Dan for his life and the sharing of his music and talents. I had the pleasure of seeing him 7 times. The first, I had front row seats. But the concerts were just icing on the cake as his lyrics and music were the true cake. God bless you dan, may you rest in peace.
Dan blessed everyone's lives he touched with his unmatched musical talent. Words can't express the sorrow of losing him so young.
I'll miss the man he was. He had so many more years to share his gifts with us. Condolences to his wife and family.
Jean, a friend of mine once said that when someone dies, your grief is more about the times you would have had in the future with your loved one and that the past memories are the ones that help you through. I found this to be so true. Hope this helps. Dan has always been my favorite artist and his concerts were the best - what a great feeling I had after seeing him perform! His music was a constant in my life and I will miss the stories he had yet to tell. Maybe he is making music with the other "story tellers" - Denver, Chapin, Nilsson,Croce -its a nice thought to have.
